Why I chose to work in 'Healthcare'?

Some people find their calling early in life. Others, like me, grow into it, shaped by experiences, by the people they meet, and by quiet, meaningful moments that change the way they see the world.

I didn’t choose healthcare because it was the easiest path. I chose it because something inside me kept leading me toward people. Toward comfort. Toward care. And I kept meeting people who reminded me what really matters, those who carry strength in their silence, kindness in their chaos, and beauty in the way they survive.

When I began my career as a paramedic, I thought the work would be mostly clinical, all fast decisions and flashing lights. And yes, there were emergencies. But what stayed with me weren’t the crises. It was the moments after. A trembling hand being held. A quiet voice asking, “Will you stay?” The stories people told me when they felt safe enough to let their guard down.

I didn’t know it then, but that was the real beginning of this journey.

Over time, I began to see care as something far more personal than a checklist. I saw how the smallest gestures, making someone laugh again, remembering how they take their tea, listening even when there’s no solution, could be life-changing. And I wanted to bring that kind of care into everyday life.

That’s why I chose to pursue nursing. And that’s why I started Vitalsbykhush, to build something rooted in connection, dignity, and genuine attention to the small details.

Some people I’ve met along the way have changed how I show up for others. They've shown me that care doesn’t always have to look perfect — sometimes, it’s just being there, quietly, when someone doesn’t ask. Sometimes, it’s seeing the tiredness in someone’s eyes and choosing to stay anyway. They’ve reminded me what it feels like to be understood without explanation. And that kind of understanding is what I hope to give others, too.

Now in the final semester of my nursing degree, I feel more prepared than ever — not just with skills and knowledge, but with a purpose that’s been built from real moments, real people, and quiet promises I made to myself.

Whether I’m helping someone recover at home, supporting an individual with special needs, or encouraging a small win in fitness, it all comes back to the same thing: being present. Being real. Being kind.

Healthcare, for me, is not just a profession. It’s a way of honouring the people who unknowingly taught me how to care better. Some of them will never know the impact they had. But maybe one of them will read this and feel it — and that’s enough.
